Royal Lace® Doily Crafts
Let’s make something very special that lights up – it’s called a Doily Luminarias! It’s like a glowing bag that shines like magic when it gets dark.
We start with a paper bag. It can be brown, white, or even a pretty color. Big or small, tall or short – all bags can work!
Now we decorate! We take a beautiful Royal Lace® doily and glue it onto the bag. We can also use paper, ribbons, and anything we like to make it look extra nice.
Then we fold the top or tie it with a ribbon if we want. We can even add letters or names on the front. That makes it special!
Now comes the fun part — the glow! An adult will help put a glass candle holder with a tiny candle inside the bag. If we put the bag outside, we can also add a little sand to the bottom so it stays still and safe.
When the candle is lit (by an adult), the light shines through the doily and makes the bag glow. It looks like a little lantern! You can use lots of them to light up a walkway, some stairs, or even the middle of a table.
But remember — because there’s a little flame inside, we don’t give them as gifts. We just enjoy their pretty light together.
Now you’ve made your very own glowing Doily Luminaria! Great job!

To the Bride and Groom, nothing seems ordinary on their wedding day. They find beauty in things that might otherwise appear commonplace – like a plain paper bag.
When decorated simply and then illuminated by a tiny votive candle, it casts a glow that will enchant bride, groom and guests alike.
The paper bags for these lanterns, known as luminarias, can be as basic as the familiar brown lunch sacks.
They can also be white, pastel or jewel-toned, tall and narrow or short and wide. All that before you even get started.
Doily Luminarias-Materials Needed:
- Royal Lace® doilies
- holders and candles
- construction paper
- ribbons
Doily Luminarias-Directions
- Fold them, string them with ribbon, monogram them.
- Then, open them and set votive holders and candles inside.
To begin with, use heavy glass holders so the bags stay standing. Afterward, if you’re setting them up outside, put about 1 inch of white sand in each bag to keep them from blowing away. From there, you can get creative! Luminarias offer lots of fun and beautiful ways to decorate for a wedding ceremony and reception.
First, place several luminarias along the aisle to light the way. Next, use them to create beautiful centerpieces for your tables. Then, line a path or staircase with them to add a magical glow. Additionally, you can personalize each bag with names or numbers to use them as place cards or table markers. However, don’t use them as guest favors, because the small flames inside help them shine brightly at night and must stay safely in place.
